New to turkey hunting

I bought a rem 870 express super mag and also a primos tight wad choke to go with it this is my first experience with trying to set up a gun specifically for turkey i have the win longbeard xr #5 and hornady magnum #4 i have tried the longbeards but not yhe hornady and they did not pattern well is there any other loads you would recommend i would prefer to stay with lead loads any help is much appreciated thank you

Might try the Longbeards #6s or try a different choke..I'd pattern the #4s first beings you have them and go from there. Another thing you might check is that your end cap is tight and how clean was your barrel right from the start?

I have the exact same gun but I shoot a hevi 13 choke with the cheap regular 3.5in #5 Winchester shell.I have tried the long beards but for me I thought they were to tight up close. I can kill one at 50 all day long just as the long beards can but I feel more comfortable at 20 yards now.

In my opinion Hornady doesn't make a good turkey load...They make some of the best rifle ammo..I just wish they would make improvements on turkey loads... You have just got to spend time trying different loads and chokes with your gun...one of the best cheap chokes i've found is a H S undertaker choke no-ported. Don't care for a ported choke ...

Agreed 100% Greg.  It's scary what Hornady posts up on their website for their 25 yard and 40 yard patterns.  Not something to brag about. 

I shoot Hevi Shot so I can't really help with the lead stuff.  Keep trying new stuff till you figure what your gun likes.

I personally like the hevi shot magnum blend with the hevi shot choke. Great patterens at 50 yds out of a x3

All depends on how far you want your maximum range to be.  For the money the Winchester Longbeard XR is a good place to start.

If you can't get the Winchester LB's to pattern, spend the money and get the federal HW 7's or Hevi shot. You'll be happy you did.

I have the 870 Express, Super Mag.  It hates the Hornadys.  Doesn't mean your gun will, but they weren't very good in mine.  I've had good luck with Longbeards and of course, Hevi 13's.

PS:  Look up Clark (Allaboutshooting) on here.  He's the guy I go to for advice on all things shot, choke, etc.  Man knows his stuff and is a great guy.

Thank you guys for the advice i think im going to cabelas this weekend to try some more shells i will see what they have the last time i was there it wasnt much because they said they only carry things seasonally but i did see an indian creek duck choke there so im hoping they will have an ic turkey choke when they put out the turkey supplies and from what i have read on here it seems to be a great choke and again thank you for the help
