Right now I'm messing with a zinc power hen slate call. When she's running she sounds decent. But I find that I get a a lot of squeaking when I fist pick up the call u til she wants to run. Maybe it's me, in fact it probably is. I haven't tried other surfaces and I'm wondering if there's another surface that still sounds good, but maybe not so temperamental. Any thoughts?

Maybe you could try stoned aluminum, Lonzo and Dawkins both make great stoned aluminum pots
That's good advice. Rough aluminum needs very little messin w,  Schafer, Platz make good ones. Blackstone n Mac make slick ones I touch w scotch brite or 220 sandpaper n they run easy n long too

Well, if you're like a lot of us, you'll start gathering every different type of surface.  Funny how want overrides need.

This sounds like more of a striker problem???

It could be getting some dust  build up.....get a piece of red scotch Brite and hit the slate, and the tip of the striker before you run it.
