I'm wanting to find an older 870 and 11-87 how can you tell the age of one before buying and when did Remington quality start going down hill. Thanks in advance

I have a number of Remington shotguns, 870s, 1100s and 11-87s as well as other models and have had some that someone wanted more than I did, so they have  a new home.

I have not bought an 870 or 11-87 in a few years, so I can't really speak to any decline in quality. I've had some over the last 20-30 years that were a bit better than others in some respects but all were worth the money I paid for them and would last the average shooter a lifetime or more with any amount of reasonable care.

Happily those lockable safeties didn't last long! As for Remington quality, true it slipped that past few years but seems to be getting back on track. I know no one who has gotten a new 870, 11-87 or 1100 and had to send it back, not sure of the Versa-Max and V3.

I bought a new 870 supermag turkey gun back in 2011 haven't had a single issue with it. I also have two older 870's that still work flawlessly. Prolly one of the most reliable shotgun platforms around!
