:camohat:  Should have checked first here. My brother got his thirteen year old daughter an 1187 20ga Compact. I bought a Carlson .575 choke. Is this a good fit with the gun and feed it 6 heavy shot and or #5 lead as in longbeard when it comes out?  Looking forward to feedback, thanks.

The Federal Heavyweight shell is available in both 23/4" and 3" loaded w/ 7's.  I have a couple of friends that started their sons shooting the 23/4" shells then graduated them to the 3" load as they became more acclimated to the recoil.  I would advise letting novice shooters become comfortable shooting target/dove loads with minimal recoil extensively before shooting turkey/high brass shells.

Thanks for the advice, my 13 yr old niece shot a 275lb live weight, six pointer thru the heart with this 20ga 1187 youth model. She's a trooper. (178 lb, dressed) She got it youth day.
