Nice 870, I shoot 1 & love it.The H 517-T's & rhino 660 would make my neck hurt for 2-3 days.  What I did was an R-3 recoil pad, helped a little but the best thing I did was put dynamat inside stock & fill w/geoseal. U can get it @ roofing supply I also got some clear tubing to slide over caulk tube to get all the way in all crevisis & filled it to mounting screw. now no more bone crunching, teeth jaring, sinus headache. Felt recoil feels like dove loads.

That's a very good looking gun. You can help tame the kick with a Shooter's Friend recoil pad. It just slips over your SuperCell and will make it feel more like a 20 gauge gun.

Thanks,
Clark

That's the Supercell pad that's on it.....and he's complaining about the recoil.

It does kick bad but my cheek is what was really hurting. It is swelled up right now from shooting it yesterday. I used a scope in the past and did not have to put my cheek on the stock. I am not going to worry about the kicking now that I have it sighted in. That supercell pad is really nice, I bet it would be a lot worse without it. What choke do ya'll think will shoot 2 1/4 oz #6 loads best a JH 660 or 665.

Dicks Sporting Goods I believe is the only place that carries this specific "Bone Collector" model.  They made them specifically for DSG.

I didn't realize anything could kick harder than an 835?  Every time I shoot it I think my cheeck swells up!

Yeah, I'm surprised too, can't really speak for the 870, but my 11-87 has a Supercell. And to me a the 11-87 with the Supercell shooting a 3.5 in load kicks no harder than my old Mossy 500 with a 3in. Mag.

I have to say I can take the recoil to the shoulder, but the face slap I get to the cheek is bad. One shot isn't that bad but three of four and I feel like I've been in a fight. My Benelli doesn't hit my face like the old 870 I guess its a different fit. I was told if a gun is hitting you in the face it doesn't fit you properly  but I wanted the 870 for turkeys so I added a red dot scope to elevate my head and no more face slaps.

I know you might not want to ruin the looks of your new shotgun but a quick and simple fix would be to take a piece of camo neoprene and attach it to the stock where you weld your cheek.  I did this with some 3M high strength spray adhesive to a piece that I cut out of an old pair of chest waders.  I tried it for fit and got it trimmed so that it actually looks like it's a factory part.  really helps to take the cheek sting out of those Remingtons and seeing as the stock is synthetic, you get a good permanent bond that actually looks good too.  Another plus is that with the straight top design of the field and sure shot stocks, you get just that little bit more highth on your stock if you are using optics.  Believe me.  If your face isn't on the stock when you shot, the felt recoil can actually be worse that if you didn't have a proper cheek weld.  Plus the nylon camo covering lets your face slide on it so the stock doesn't grab your cheek upon recoil similar to the comfort tech stock insert on my SBE II.  hope this helps.

Also a Sureshot stock might eliminate face slap too? It's design kind off swoops  downwards from cheek area to reciever, leaving face free of stock when it kicks back. So far I have don't have them issues with the Sureshot, plus it makes for some rock solid aiming.

I shoot a 870 Supermag with a Blackhawk Camo Spec Ops stock.  I put the R3 recoil pad on the original stock first and it did help, but it was still hitting pretty hard. So, I put the Spec Ops recoil reduction stock on and it tamed it down considerably. I also have a Tasco multi-reticle Pro Point sight on it, and the sight has no magnification, so it is mounted far enough forward to eliminate scope eye cuts. It's a turkey killer.    :newmascot:

Looks like it came with one? I have an 11-87 that came with a Supercell, and it looks the same?

Of course it kicks.  It's a Remington.  My 870 with a 3" 2 ounce 5/6/7 mag blend absolutely punishes you!!  Feels like Mike Tyson just ran up and gave you the old haymaker!!  I shoot the same load in my 835 and it is almost pleasant to shoot in comparison.  Nice lookin rig btw!

Really? I havent shot the 870 sm but I have shot a 835 and I have never shot a remingotn that kicks harder than a mossberg. My cousin just bought a 870 sm, maybe I need to go shoot his.
