Flare tip strikers

Been using mouth calls, box calls for years. Got a few pot calls, have called in a few Gobblers. After hearing some sound files on here I'm going to make some phone calls. Get me some good calls & some good strikers. My question is, are flare tip strikers better, easier to use. Seen some Derrick Stucky strikers on eBay that look very nice.

I like mine almost flat to flat , just depends on the type of wood used.

they are more forgiving. i personally like straight tips. they seem to be a little higher pitch and i feel i am more consistent with them. i started turkey hunting way long ago and that's what i started out using. i guess that may be why im partial to them.

Flare tips are more user friendly in my opinion as you can angle the striker in different directions and still get a decent sound. However, consistency is found in straight tips as you pretty much have to run the striker the same way and at the same angle all the time

I'm getting conflicting feedback, though most say straight gives more consistent sounds. These strikers are expensive.

It's a personal choice. I prefer a small flare tip but will run any if they sound good.

After having trouble in the woods today with my calling I realized that the flare tip might be the way to go.

I'm a rooky but been trying to run them for years. LOL! I do like the straight peg better but the screeching has to go!! I also think that if the flared striker is a match for the pot, made and used right it will work and sound just as good as a straight tip. I found that out today. I was also having trouble with the end of my yelps but Hunter22 straightened me out.

I like the flared tip on a slate call and straight tip on a glass or crystal. I feel the flared tip gives the slate a much raspier, life-like tone. But yes, it's all personal preference.

Not a fan of flared tips. Imo once you learn to control striker I find it harder to get perfect sounds. I know some disagree

I used to use nothing but straight tip. I couldn't stand a fat tipped striker. But the more flared tipped strikers I got the more I liked them. I have found that with the flared tip you can change the angle a lot more and still get a great sound. This allows me to "role" the striker while calling. By doing this I am able to get extra different tones at the same time. Kinda like a three tone yelp. If that makes sense.
