strange advice from choke manufacture

I was just on the phone with the good folks at TruGlo checking on a choke I have coming my way. It is an SSX .550. I ask what shot "they" recommended and what follow up they had got from customers. The fellow told me that their engineer said to never shoot the new ammo with the flight control type wad. What's up with that I said. His reply was that according to their engineer it may cause severe damage to your barrel.  DANG, is this true? Has anyone experienced problems like that? I have everything from Federal, Remington and Winchester with #6 lead to copper plated #5-#6 and the HW 7's. My gun is an 870 with a 21" barrel.  I'm thinking I'll just shoot like always but then again I'd like some opinions on the matter.

Those FCW shells do not do well being super choked down

I've never shot the flight control through a turkey choke only full choke, I know it doesn't work well with ported chokes but now for constriction they mostly work well with more open chokes, if you have one try the factory full or get an non ported HS Undertaker or Carlson's choke if you can afford it.

I have an SSX .550 in my Mossberg 20 ga, and I have no issues with shooting the Fed Flite Control.
I have inspected the wads, and they are in perfect shape post shot.
Not only that, but my patterns are dense and even.
The only choke I have heard you cannot shoot the flitecontrol out of is the Indian Creek.
The wad in the 20 is much less stiff than the 12 ga.

The flight control wad in the 10 gauge is very hard plastic as well

thanks gang.  sounds like I'm gonna be shooting the SSX without reservation.  what the fellow was telling me didn't make much sense anyway.  In all honesty....if that's their policy wouldn't there need to be some sort of disclaimer on the packaging?

There should be. I know Indian Creek says on their website to not shoot the Federal shells with the flitecontrol wad.

Truglo told me to send an email to them and a tech could tell me but they said no one will respond until Monday, I sent them an email but waiting on Monday for a response.

got the choke today.  I have never seen rings and grooves like are inside this TruGlo SSX .550 choke tube.  I know they're machined there for a reason so I'd like to know what the reason is?  anyway, as for ammo on hand...I have the Federal Premium high velocity in #5 & #6, I also have the Federal Premium Heavyweight #7's and, for kicks I picked up a box of Kent Diamond Shot #6. All are 3". So, am I good to go or should I use another choke with this ammo or find other ammo for this choke?? Personally I'm thinking just shoot it all and tally the results.

the chokes I have on hand are:
TG SSX .550
TG GSX .565
Primos Tight Wad .570
and I have a RSF on the way that is a .570 'lead only'

I believe the rings are there to separate the wad from the shot, did you happen to receive my PM I sent you... If not Truglo responded back and told me the same thing they told you, that its unsafe to shoot the Federal FC wad, I'd use the Federal loads out of a different choke just to be safe.

The rings you see are wad catchers and the straight lines are known as straight rifling.

The wad catcher is designed to pull the wad away from the shot and straight rifling is supposed to steady the wad
to keep it from spinning.

Remington had straight rifling offered in a turkey choke years ago and the wad catchers are in many custom chokes. Th eguns that I have seen using SSX in 20 gauge have shown no sign of problems so far.

hey NYlogbeards. I did get that e-mail...thank you and thanks for that info RAJ.   the majority 'so far' says it'll create no problems with the FCW's but, enough have warned against it to make me rethink.
