Has America become the land of special interest and home of the double standard?

Lets see: if we lie to the Congress, it's a felony and if the Congress lies to us its just politics; if we dislike a black person, we're racist and if a black person dislikes whites, its their 1st Amendment right; the government spends millions to rehabilitate criminals and they do almost nothing for the victims; in public schools you can teach that homosexuality is OK, but you better not use the word God in the process; you can kill an unborn child, but it is wrong to execute a mass murderer; we don't burn books in America, we now rewrite them; we got rid of communist and socialist threats by renaming them progressive; we are unable to close our border with Mexico, but have no problem protecting the 38th parallel in Korea; if you protest against President Obama's policies you're a terrorist, but if you burned an American flag or George Bush in effigy it was your 1st Amendment right.

You can have pornography on TV or the internet, but you better not put a nativity scene in a public park during Christmas; we have eliminated all criminals in America, they are now called sick people; we can use a human fetus for medical research, but it is wrong to use an animal.

We take money from those who work hard for it and give it to those who don't want to work; we all support the Constitution, but only when it supports our political ideology; we still have freedom of speech, but only if we are being politically correct; parenting has been replaced with Ritalin and video games; the land of opportunity is now the land of hand outs; the similarity between Hurricane Katrina and the gulf oil spill is that neither president did anything to help.

And how do we handle a major crisis today? The government appoints a committee to determine who's at fault, then threatens them, passes a law, raises our taxes; tells us the problem is solved so they can get back to their reelection campaign.

What has happened to the land of the free and home of the brave?

A very good read that is spot on!!! I'm sick of it!! That is the reason I have not voted for an incumbent for years now!! They just want to grease their pockets and sad to say the one best suited for president won't even get the nomination!!

This is so true. I'm still young, but growing up I never could have imagined it getting this bad. I worry every day for what it's going to be like when I'm old or when my kids become adults. Just going to my kids' school makes me wonder what the heck some parents are doing. There is no discipline anymore, no winning or losing (sorry kids, to be successful as an adult, you've gotta know how it feels to lose and learn to hate that feeling more than anything in the world.) What happened to people having a drive to succeed and to be the best? It's long gone in this society. If it doesn't involve a smartphone or facebook, or twitter, or a man becoming a woman, people don't care at all. People worry so much about hurting other people's feelings that they worry themselves sick. Sorry to say, but not me and not my kids. I don't force my beliefs on anyone and I won't stand for someone trying to force theirs on me. Rant over.

No child left behind... Everybody gets a trophy. Small school districts... no more tryouts , every child makes the team. Participation medals. Blah, blah, blah.. The government is making it easier for people to become dependent on them. More control for big brother.

Whatever happened to the mind set that in order to sling a gobbler over your back, you have to put in a little effort. Today some rely on motorized decoys, fanning/reaping etc. What happened to the days of getting one to gobble, moving in and setting up against a tree and working the bird to within reasonable gun range??

All those that shoot TSS and talk about the penetration and patterns  out to 70-80 yards then swear they don't shoot anything past 40 yards! As Paul Harvey used to say, "that is like hiring the Mormon's Tabernacle Choir to just hum" !!

And where will it go from here. My Grandfather used to say that he'd like to come back in a hundred years and see what the world was like. Given the direction of the changes I've seen in my lifetime, I don't think I would.

I agree wholeheartedly but what can you do about it. They are going to put in office whoever they want. The people's vote has never really counted much. Why should one state have more electoral votes than another. It should be whoever gets the most votes period.

How about only being able to vote if you pay taxes? Everyone that "donates" to the system should have a right to say how that money is used and who gets or handle it. If you haven't contributed to society then why should your opinion matter? Obviously there are a few exceptions to this rule but you get the point.

What was America like 300 years ago and was it actually "better"?

I know one thing is for sure, the turkey hunting is a lot better now than it was 100 years ago.... be happy and positive; try to inspire others thru your actions and the way you live your life. Don't be fearful or hateful...
