Eastern screech owl
« on: March 30, 2016, 09:30:08 PM »
I've photographed this little guy several times before but it's been a goal of mine to get shots of him with his eyes open which I finally managed tonight. I recently acquired a new camera body and these shots wouldn't have been possible without it due to its low light capabilities, he didn't open his eyes and climb up to the edge of his hole until 15 minutes after sunset.

Those are really nice. What body and lens are you using. Assuming with the low light capabilities of your new body it is full frame. I have a Nikon D7100 and a 300mm f4 af-s lens.

Body is a Canon 6D which I mainly picked up for some astrophotography shots I want to do. I expected I would be shooting in low light for these shots though so it was an easy choice picking it for the owl too. Lens is the 600mm f4 IS II.

This is with a different body, but shows my setup:

Those are some surprisingly good shots!

Getting good owl shots is difficult at best, and those are great!
Did I do that?
