Remington 870 Super Mag

Any suggestions on a choke for my Remington 870 Super Mag?   I've tried quite a few choke/she'll combinations and the best I've found is a jelly head choke with the federal 3rd degree shells.   I'm not real happy with that but it's the best I have found.  Pattern is ok at 20-25 but falls apart after that.

Try your Jellyhead with either Hevishot magblends or Hevishot #6, AFTER a good deep cleaning. Bet you'll like what you see.

I would say the reason your not real happy with the jellyhead/3rd degree combo is first off that load uses the Flite control wad and is not recommended to be used with ported choke tubes or chokes that have a "wad stopper" feature and most all ported chokes utilize that feature...the jellyhead is ported. Second off the reason your less than satisfied is because that load sucks...PERIOD. Now,someone commented to use Hevi-shot Mag-Blend....RIGHT -ON BROTHER!!!!  You will be ALOT more satisfied with that combo.Also I heard Long Beard mentioned....YAZZZZSIR!!!!! That too will make ya happy.My thoughts on lead is this...NO #6 SHOT PERIOD. I know I'm gonna catch some flack over that comment but hey this is America last time I checked the flagpole so I state my opinion. FACT is #6 lead runs out of energy after 40...actually its about 38...but hey, whos countin' that close??? I'm noy in ANY way sayin' it wont kill farther than 40,cause I've done it myself when I first started. Anyhow,the Blend is fantastic,and the LB is too,and you also have the H-13 straight sizes in 5,6,7 shot they shoot exceptionally well as I can attest to that fact.... 336 in a 10" circle @ 40 yds. using the 3.5"-2.25oz.-#7 shot with a Final Strut .650 choke.I've rambled on enough,hope I helped!!!!

You have the right choke.  My 870 benefited from polishing the barrel according the instructions found on this site.  Deep cleaning at a minimum. 

Not sure your budget, but for factory heavier than lead, I would go with the Magnum Blends.  For lead, I would do the Winchester Longbeards in #5 or #6 shot.  The Magnum Blends will be more forgiving up close and at range. 

The shells you have now would not make my list at all.  Also steer clear of the Hornady and Remington Nitro shells.

I have a 780 super mag and I have killed a lot of turkeys with a star-dot choke and the old winchester HV #6 (the black shells)  Now i shoot an Idain creek .665
with #5 or #6 long beards.  I would still shoot the old #6 shells if I could find them!

*im sure the 3.5 patterns with this combo will shoot well but there is no need. 280's with the 7's, 160's with the XX's, and 220's with the Win LB 6's.
