mouth call reed saver use

How do people use mouth calls without reed savers? I have been making mouth calls for a couple years and I think they are so important that I include a set with each call I sell or give away.

I have found that for a mouth call to work properly I keep reed savers between the reeds anytime the call is not in my mouth. I carry a small eye dropper full of water with me when I hunt. before I take the reed savers out I squirt water between the reeds and run the reed savers back and forth to unstick them. Then when I take the call out of my mouth the reed savers go back in to keep the reeds from sticking. If I use a call one time and it dries without reed savers between the reeds the reeds will be stuck. I guess there are a lot of people out there using really thick single reed calls.

I read a tip, I think from Sam at gooserbat, to let your diaphragms dry out with a toothpick slid between the reeds.

i use Doctors brush picks, they are made for cleaning braces, a pack will do a hundred calls and costs about $2. there very thin and plastic, best thing i have found

I do not mess with reed savers in the field, but have a couple forks in the truck for when I am done hunting...

I like using small coated paper clips cut in half. They are cheep, work great and come in lots of cool colors.

I cut plastic coffee stirrers into small pieces and use them to keep the reeds from sticking.  They are cheap and available almost anywhere.

I use pieces cut from a gallon milk jug or other plastic container.

I cut the teeth out of a "NEW" comb and place one under the top reed only. That's pretty much the way a GNCC Champion of Champions, and several time 2 man team champion showed me to do. Before I was placing them between every reed. Ghost cut, I'd use two, one under each side of the cut.
