The dang music blaring during the turkey hunts on the TV is BLOWING MY MIND!!!!!!

I am sure that most everyone will agree that hearing a turkey gobble while it is coming in is the most exciting thing besides the shot.  I simply don't understand how some of these "hardcore" hunters on shows like Avian X, Drury, and Turkey Call cannot figure out why shows like Primos have higher rating across the boards while they are stuck in the graveyard shift.  :character0029:
This year is going to suck!!!

Dr Juice

I concur and prefer to watch the good o'boyz from Primos. They seem to be the most down to earth hunters.

I don't get any hunting shows with my little outside antenna, but I've been watching videos online and it drives me crazy too. Even when the birds aren't gobbling, I'd still rather hear the sounds of the woods over the music. I like my music, but there's a time and place.

Call 'em close, It's the most fun you'll ever have doing the right thing.

I agree the music is way over board ... also have you notice this year NOT near as many turkey hunting shows on Tv...also what about some of the products they advertise and after you look at the item on line it cost 200 - 400 dollars or more...lol

They play the music because all they have in front of them is a strutting decoy and they have to make it interesting to the yuppies

Yuppies? More like all you coddled, ADD Millennials.

If the music is too loud, you are too old!  Bet you said that to your parents at some point?

Bunch of grumpy old men.

You don't like it? Don't watch it.

Pretty sure if you call Matt Morrett and offer him your expert advice on producing a great turkey hunting show he will give you a nice, southern, 'God Bless', if ya know what I mean?   ;D

I don't.  Therefore I don't have to listen to the banjos that, for some reason, I never seem to hear on a turkey hunt.

Seems like hear banjos on almost every turkey hunt once I get far enough back.   ;D

As soon as you put music to hunting, it becomes hunting porn...  Money shot being the kill shot.  We have the same complaints on the waterfowling end...  Too much music, no calling...  If I want to hear music, I'll crank up the radio or my iTunes...

I live to hunt, but honestly, hunting is pretty darned boring to me if I am not doing it; I would rather be engaged than watching someone else.  I feel the same way about sex actually. ;D

Some hunting shows and videos are helpful with tips and tools to be more productive, but for the most part, it is tough to make turkey hunting interesting to an observer.

Takes anywhere from 20 minutes to two hours to call a bird in...  So the camera is faced towards some woods, while we hear a turkey off in the distance slowly come in...  Bird finally comes in, and for most TV shows, they let the bird dance around for a bit, till it looks like it might wander off, and they shoot it....

And many of these shows are filmed on some ranch that my 5 year old could call in a bird...  In recent years, I am hunting areas that are far more difficult to get a bird in range, and have come to appreciate the difficulty of fooling a bird with a lot fewer birds around.

I actually find the home video's and youtube videos more interesting, cause it seems to me the excitement is more sincere...  Get to hear a variety of people calling using different calls, and compare to my own style and skills in calling.
Did I do that?

Fly fishermen are born honest, but they get over it.

Pretty much wrong on all points...but nice try.  :goofball:

I enjoy a straight up, realistic, humble turkey hunting show.  Primos got away from that a few years back and have recently went back to their roots...The Truth.  I have recently began to shut the TV off and hit YouTube hunting crowd.  Those guys on there could put 90% of the TV wannabes back on their trust funds if they had the right connections, but it seems that most of them don't want that.

As far as Matt Morrett, he used to be good, but I haven't seen him around in a while.  Still never held a candle to Wilbur and the boys.....so God Bless, if ya know what I mean?

Back at ya brother. :toothy12:

Morett is still on Avian X most weeks...

I guess I tend to think that whether it be good, bad or indifferent, hunting shows exist to sell product for advertisers.  The future of hunting is the younger generation - without additional recruitment the sport will die off and there will be no need for products or product innovation.  Kids today seem to need a bit more stimulation to draw and keep their attention, hence the music.

Hope your season is memorable and safe.

What happened to the good old hunting shows . everyone is just looking for money to endorse some mass produced product .. makes me sick .

spaightlabs

Other than public access cable, there isn't a show on TV in any genre, be it sitcom, hunting or anything else, that isn't specifically produced with the intention of selling some product, whether it is coca cola or funky chicken decoys.

The guy that does 'Pure Hunting' on Sportsman Channel was on our Ducks Unlimited committee.  He put his money into creating, pitching, filming, producing and selling a show.  It's all about getting sponsor $$ and advertising revenue.

Just the way the world works...

Swather

I am informed by someone in the know that the networks--Sportsman, Outdoor, Pursuit--lean on the creators of the show to fit the mold and increase the drama by editing the show with the hard rock music.  The networks lean on them because they believe it is a good production value and creates a better product.

I've not met any viewers that concur.

Perhaps all those people standing in line to get an autograph and picture from Michael Waddell at the NWTF and other shows are the ones that like that synchronized music.
