#5 vs #6 energy

I know this has probably already been a topic discussed, but I'm curious on how much difference is in the two shot sizes. I know the 6s will have more pellets on target but how much energy am I losing against a #5. Reason I'm saying is I've always shot 5s or htl loads and kinda scared of a number 6. That being said shells will be longbeard xr's

I've only killed 11 turkeys to date but that being said I've used a variety of shells
1)old red shell Winchester 3in #6 (1 turkey) 10 yards
2)Winchester supreme 3.5in #6 (2 turkeys) 15 yards and 40 yards
3)Remington 2.75in 4x6 duplex (2 turkeys) 2 yards!!! and 12 yards
4)hevi shot 3.5in mag blends (3 turkeys) 15 yards, 20 yards, 55 yards
5)win longbeard xr 3.5in #6 (2 turkeys) 50 yards and 7 yards
6)win longbeard xr 3in #5 (1 turkey) 42 yards

The longbeard 6s will have more than enough energy as long as you keep the shots at a reasonable distance. They will kill birds all day at 40 yards and provide some wiggle room if you misjudge.

#5's will always have more energy than #6's, just due to the slightly larger size of pellet, hence more weight. Here is a chart that I saved years ago. This is pertaining to lead shot.

The 5s have more energy but you will lose pattern density 6s do great at reasonable distances ive shot them with everything from nitros to hevi 13 lead7.5s to lead 4s dead is dead

At 40 yds and 1200 fps MV, lead 6s retain 1.88 ft-lbs of energy, 5s retain 2.66. Either is more than sufficient at 40 yds.
