breaking a choke in?

 Does a new choke need to be broke in? As in, putting some shots through it to produce optimal patterns.

Some do.

I can't say for sure, but a couple boxes of target loads are not gona hurt it, just make sure you clean it well before you pattern your shotgun.

Normally with every choke I will put a cheap box of 25 thru it, clean it up real good and then test it with various turkey loads. I've had quite a few chokes improve pattern density and consistency doing this.

Sorry for trespassing but I was watching the same thing
I deep cleaned my new 835 barrel before I put the first round through it. I've put 20 rounds through it now. Should I deep clean the barrel again and should I run the snake through it as I pattern it. Also is there a preferred way to clean choke and should I oil it?

i know with our chokes they do get better after shot some.  i tell folk box of shells on our target stuff.  now i have never tried the hunting loads to see how much better they get

I specifically ran a box of 25 #9 trap loads thru that choke you sent me last year, cleaned it, patterned completely different. It was more uniform at all distances and much more dense without noticeable gaps. Before and after it was a killer choke and still is!
