I had the above M2 drilled and tapped by a reputable gun smith in our area for the Marlin base and I put the FFIII on it. The smith told me that because of where the base has to sit there is one screw that is in the thicker portion of the receiver and he doesn't worry about that area BUT I believe it is the front area that is thinner.
He has done several and after initial test fit he epoxies the base and uses loctite on the screws. Overkill? Maybe but I don't plan on taking it off and he told me that if you take that base on and off a couple of times you will more than likely strip that front screw hole because of how thin it is.
As long as you are using a reputable smith that has experience with Aluminum receivers I don't think you will have any problems. Good luck with it as it is a nice compact deadly combination.
