So I got directed over to this forum from another forum hopefully seeking some help. I'm graduating from the police academy in late April and as a reward to my self I wanted to do a kansas and Nebraska trip and hopefully get a rio and Merriam. I will be driving from Florida and doing it all solo and hopefully camp the entire time to cut down on costs as well as all on public land. I've done a lot of research on both states but any personal experience local or out of state is more than appreciated.

Welcome,  I'm sure some will chime in but there are several threads on both states you can browse through and may just find what you need.  Good luck.  That sounds like a fun venture I hope to try some day.

Thank you I appreciate it. Yes, I've got some good info from older posts as well. The more information the better though.

For a true Merriams you need to be in the nw part of NE. Same on a Rio. Western part of KS will put you on a Rio. The later in the season you go for a Merriams the better. There is good public in NE for Rio too. Good luck
When I turkey hunt I use a DSD decoy

Yup that's what I've heard, the properties I've been studying in both states are both in the Northwest. I planned on going May 5-15 or 12-22.

For those states I'd be more partial to the May 8-18th.

If it's an early spring they'll be very hen free, if it's a late spring they'll still have hens but it will be manageable.

Is there a dramatic difference in hunting pressure between week days and weekends?  Here in Florida you'll see an army of people on the weekends but only the few dedicated ones during the week

You will see more turkeys than people.

That'll be a different sight than I'm used to seeing

Good to see that you made it over to this forum.  Great group of hunters here without all the drama normally associated with forums.  Good luck on your hunt.
