Burl hunting

I went out with a buddy this weekend looking for Burls to make some calls out of once they dry out. Found quite a few, probably 8-10 in just a few hours of walking around his property. Just wanted to share with everyone some of the beauty in Burls. Here's the first one we found. All of the burls we found were maple.

Beautiful wood. One thing I do to keep it from checking is to rub the cut with white elmers glue to slow dying to keep checking from occurring. Will make some beautiful calls or knife handles, bowls, cups etc......

I was wondering about what to do with it. I was thinking of putting the paint they make to seal the ends of lumber to keep it from checking. But elmer's glue sounds like a cheaper solution
