Any of you guys running a CNC? What loads are giving you the best patterns? Also, if starting from scratch, and you had to use one choke in a 21" barreled 870, where would you spend your money?

FL-Boss

Primos Jellyhead  or Rem Ventilator - cheap and just as good as anything out there for a Rem.... trust me I have tried them all in multiple Remington...

I've got a comp n choke .655 in my 22" Winchester 1300. I posted some pictures in the pattern thread with it and the long beards.

I just got a Sumtoy 650 for my 21" rem. shot 270 at 40 with the 3" Hevi 7s

FL-Boss

+1  ... I forgot to add... your ammo is actually more important than the choke. Spend the money.. and shoot HEVI #7 if really want that gun to rock.

nyhunter

all my 870's "4 of them", 12 gauge's really like the jellyhead .660 with H-13 6's and 7's . With the Win. long beard 5's & 6's i got better patterns from the Kicks .660 .... but only slightly better. SO thats where I'd spend my money !

I've shot CNCs periodically for many years. They are well-made, well-designed products. They have a lot of years of experience behind them and in the late 1990s and early 2000s they were a "fan favorite". Charlie Boswell is a true pioneer in the choke tube field and I find the folks at the company to be gentlemen. Charlie won the Still Target World Championship in 1997, 1998 & 1999 with his chokes and Winchester shells. He quit shooting in that competition after that and gave some of the rest of us a chance.

There are many good chokes out there today and a good selection of shotshells to go with them. In my recent evaluations of some 32 chokes through 6 different shotguns with both WLB shells and Hevi-13 shells, most turned in very good performances with good even patterns with few if any gaps of 2" or over and all of my evaluations took place in relatively cool temperatures, like those when most of us hunt.

With your short barrel, I'd look at something no more open than .650-.655 for optimum results.

Thanks,
Clark
