I have an 870 turkey gun and I got the Remington XF choke tube and have wondered if I got a new choke tube like the Kicks GT or the Primos JH would they be tighter groups out to 40 or 50 yds. and also it kicks hell out of me, would the choke tubes help? I even changed the recoil pad to the Limbsaver pad to maybe make it better. If there is any better tubes out there and you guys know it for sure please let me know.

I have used a Jellyhead in a 870 and 11-87 with consistently great results shooting3"  Hevishot #6 and magblends. Also good with Longbeard #5 or #6 (can't remember which).

Have heard nothing but good things about Kicks Gobbling Thunder in Rem guns as well, but never shot one.

Either would be a good place to start.

the jellyhead has done well for me with mag blend loads and nitros. I also have the limbsaver recoil pad. it helped a little.....the stock pad is useless. I recently put a boyds thumbhole laminate stoke and mine kicks even worse..but I tend to hold a better shot with it.

I have a 870 SP Turkey with 21" barrel & I use a promos jellyhead choke & 3" hevishot blend shells & get incredible pattern with it at 40 taped off yards, I have taken several birds with this combo & I love the short barrel for ease of movement in the woods! Also put a remington Super Cell recoilpad on it & it helps very much!

I have a 21" 870...years ago when Remington loaded hevishot and it was fairly new to the market I bought a chep Undertaker hevishot tube for it..literally for a couple bucks at the end of the season...patterns are awesome...I could probably find better...but I'd go broke trying...

With 3" mag blend I am right around a  225 avg. in 10" @ 40yds.

One of the patterns....only thing I've done is polish the bore...

I'd try the cheap chokes like the Undertaker hevishot tube, jellyhead etc first....if they don't work well sell em and buy expensive chokes..

For a 21" barrel I just don't see mag blend patterning much better..

With the old remington loaded #6 hevishot (I think it was only 1.5oz) I put 187 pellets on a sheet of computer paper at 40yds...

Hevi13 #5s patterned well...Winchester flight control copper plated #4s pattern extremely well for lead #4s.  I use them up calling fox at night and they do really well...
