Is that the same as the Army Corp of Engineers land around Mark Twain lake?

It's a rough go.  We are at an ten year low on the population and there is a lot of hunting pressure on public ground.  The Ozark's are rough country, steep, rocky, and heavily timbered.  Be ready to wear out the boot leather and be in shape, save up lots of patience, and plan as many days as possible for the hunt if decide to come to the Ozarks.

Missouri has public lands administered by the State of Missouri, the U.S. Forest Service, The Army Corp of Engineers, the U.S. National Park Service, and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.  Generally speaking the Missouri State Conservation Areas and the Forest Service grounds are pretty simple and straight forward.  The other three might occasionally have some rules and regs that could throw a curve at you.  It pays to make darned sure you know where you are and what the regs are for that area.

It is rough ground and like lots of public areas is pressured pretty good.MO has lots of public ground.go to there website and i believe they still have a feature where you can view a map of all the public hunting areas.May help you find other less pressured areas around where you may be.

Pack a GPS and a lunch, cause you could get stuck in there for a while. That place is huge! Got family that has land that backs up to some of MTNF in bolinger county. Some big rolling rocky hills in there. But, there's turkeys in there to be killed.

Oh and if you hear banjos, walk faster!

And that is the truth. I have been hunting the Twain for the past 21 years, The bird numbers are way down and the hunting preasure is way up. Last year every day I had men work in on me. Worse than here in Pa. We are going this year, but it is looking like this will be our last year. No birds and a 200.00 tag fee are pointing us to Tenn of Ok.  Good luck if you go..

Lots of pressure in the area I have been hunting for the last five years and the turkey population is not what it was when I started going.

15 to 25 years ago I would have rather hunted the Mark Twain around Duke MO The big piney river close to Ft. Lenord Wood than any place on earth,  now that I think about its closer to the 25 year deal.   I heard over 100 several mornings,  big long-bearded hard gobbling birds,   but now its tuff.   We stopped going several years back when 5 of us , hunted hard for 5 days and only killed one Jake,   I would look hard at another state.

I have family that butts to MT as well.they live in christain co...i went there 2 seasons ago,and killed a jake by accident..no gobs on that trip,my buddy ate both of his tags..if i go back this year,i bet i can get it done because i've seen the property,and know how to get around better..i would try to stay a week,if you can..there were alot of guy's trying to strike birds from the road also.good luck!!
