Well I was in his wheel house to say the least. I went down a long god forsaken hill and started up another monster towards my blind on top the ridge. Light was breaking and he started gobbling on the limb as I walked through the leaves. Got the decoys out and in the blind and waited. He gobbled good in the tree. My blind was facing the ridge He was on.
All hell broke loose behind me, hens yelping and cutting loud. I started calling to them knowing they would ruin my hunt or help lure him in. They set the tone and I followed suit calling aggressive and shook a gobble tube. In the meantime he flew down and only gobbled a couple of times. A hen with a 4-6in beard started calling as she walked up from behind me on the ridge and started down towards him. I had no idea at this point where he was. I started calling to another hen and she went straight to my decoys and scratched around.
I glanced over to my right and here he comes up the long face of the hill strutting and drumming straight to the decoys and hen. He strutted around my Jake decoy and never touched it. I kept my gun shouldered for a few minutes waiting and CONTINUED TO WAIT FOR HIM TO BREAK STRUT. Tired of waiting I went ahead and sent a load of mag blends his way and dropped him. I still can't believe he didn't jump on the jake deek.
