Would you try this in the early season?

We have the learn to hunt next weekend and right now is it 2 degrees and there is 6 inches of snow on the ground that is not going away to fast.  I am guessing the birds will be in large groups still.  So I am thinking, of having my buddy with his kid and me with my kid sit together.  My idea is that if you get onto one bird, there may be more with him.  So you would you hunt together or split up?  I am going scouting tomorrow and Sunday so that will help us make up our minds.

I believe you are right..they will likely be grouped up.That is a lot of nervous eyes..and two hunters with two kids sitting in the cold is a lot of potential movement for them to see.I'm not a fan of either but...I would think you would improve your chances with decoys and blinds.

Everything I've been seeing here in MN is that the gobblers are still in there groups. They have been gobbling and strutting some also. I would split up Saturday and if you still wanna sit together Sunday then do it then. I be thinking about buying a couple more Jake decoys too.

Groups of birds, gobbling fighting purrs excited yelping and I like to gobble on a box fighting purr on mouth call, all this works well if their not responding to "normal" calling. I would sit together at first if you find they are broke up some split ways otherwise good chance you'll call in multiples, kill one and its normally a gang attack so the 2nd person can get a shot. It's supose to warm up by then my guess is they will be hamering.

We have the same conditions over here in St. Paul area. I've been seeing a lot of groups and occasionally I'll see a lone gobbler. My girlfriend reported to me on her way to work this morning that see saw a flock of about 25 not far from our house. With that being said, if you stay together, you may get into a group of birds but you also may not see anything. Split up and cover more ground. If one kid is successful then the other kid can move to that area in the afternoon or the next morning. Plus, each kid will have their own personal experience to enjoy!
