Rehydrating a Fan

Had a jake fan all tacked out to dry with some borax on it to use on my deke this year.  I recently purchased a fan holder so instead of drilling a hole through the hard part on the fan I want to pluck the feathers out so I can put them in the holder. 

How do I go about re-hydrating it well.  I have had it sitting in water for a while, but its still very tough.

Any tips?

Leave it in the water it will rehydrate.

Trap.. I did the same thing, except I did drill the fan. I drilled it so that an aluminum arrow shaft would fit in the hole. Then I cut a piece of the arrow shaft and stuck it in the hole, so that the bolt would tighten on the shaft and not the tail. It works like a charm and will never wear out. Just a thought..Mike

Could I use a dull knife?

Yep...I just go at 'em with a pair of side cutters.
