these late springs with no leaves on trees, are realy tough for hunting turkeys.like winter, the birds can see forever while on the roost or on the ground in the woods where they are scratching for acorns.they hens are not in the mood yet and but toms gobble on the roost trying to get a hen to him thengives up when he flys down leaving the world quiet and making one think the birds have disappeared.this tom finally had no hen in the neighborhood and i knew the ridge he like to stroll and it did not takeover 30 minutes to get him at 45 yards looking for the sweet talking hen he was listening to.not a monster but about 20#,8" beard and a little over 1" spurs.last year was a late spring like this and i got my first bird last year exactly one year ago to the day, march 28th

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.
