I squeezed 8 yrs service out of my old Pinnacle boots (should've quit at 6 really) and started shopping for replacements.
I liked the look and the sales pitch on the 17" Danner Steadfast Snake Boot, but couldn't find a review anywhere (guess I'm the first idiot to buy a pair
) so I took a chance and ordered them from Cabelas mid-February.
Got an E-mail saying "back-ordered, estimated ship date 2 weeks". No big deal, season doesn't open 'til April 18th.
2 weeks later another E-mail. "Back-ordered, estimated ship date 4/17"
My wife started digging around the web and found them in stock at Tactical
Gear.com (She's a KEEPER
). $199.95, free shipping.
I'm posting this as a "first impressions" review, to whom it may concern.
I will admit, looks factored into my decision. and they are a good looking boot. This pair was true to size (my main concern).
They are very stiff, expected in a snake boot, but loosened up fairly quickly after a few break in sessions around the house/yard.
While they are 17", they would only be waterproof to about 11", the height of the gusset.
I gave them their first woods test today while scouting. They passed the creek test a few times, definately waterproof. I've owned Lacrosse rubber, Rocky lace-ups and Pinnacle zip-ups. These are as comfortable as any of those, and I expect that to only get better.
I will try to remember to post an "after season" review...well...after the season
