I know it may be difficult to explain without pics , but if you can , explain or post a pic showing or demonstrating how you hold your pot call strikers. This may give some ideas for others to try.

I'm hold mine the same as I do a pen/pencil. I have fingertip contact with my thumb and index finger while the ferrule of the striker sits against the inside, middle section of my middle finger.

noisy box call that seems to sound like a flock of juvenile hens pecking their way through a wheat field

yeah kind of what I was getting at. different holds give different sounds on the same pot and striker combos. I am trying to figure out the ways to change the pitch on different calls. I have been experimenting and just looking for different ways. hopefully I will find something that will improve my over all pot calling. keep them coming.

I don't holde mine like a pencil, I choke up quite a bit and hold my thumb more perpendicular/crossing my index finger.  The striker also is against my middle finger.

Maybe I should take a picture . .  .

Added pic to my post. I grip it like a pen/pencil but I do choke up on like jblackburn said. Pic should be easier to understand.

there is a clip on you tube showing sadler mcgraw calling on a pot,he shows how he hold the striker and it is hard to explain without looking at it,when you first try it it feels a little awkward but it is by far the best sounding way i have ever tried,it even made some calls i have thought that there was no hope for come alive.just type in sadler mcgraw calling on you tube and watch all the video's,he holds it different for each sound, and theres one of him at a convention calling on one of his the eye calls and it shows up close how to position your hand  several times.ive been playing with calls doing it this way for about a week and though it felt weird at first it just comes natural now and has made a huge differance.i was pretty good before but now its at a whole new level.

I've also been working with his grip....and I think that if you stick with it, it will make you a more consistant caller.  Just my opinion.  It also seems like it keeps you hand from cramping as much.

I hold my like a pencil. Did see Sadler's grip and have tried it. Definitely changed the way the call sounded. I haven't switched to it yet because it seems a little awkward to me. But just need to practice it more I guess.
