Mississippi in Two Weeks

I had my vacation to be able to hunt the first week and half the second week but have decided to push that back a week and a half bc of the weather.  I'm still going to hunt that first week on my 4 days off but it will be more of a scout/hunt to try and find some birds for my vacation.  I think this next week and the opening week temps in the 60's and 70's will give me a better shot at em.

You Mississippi boys sure sound like some of the old timers I grew up around.  Not a single one of em would ever admit to hearing a turkey gobble anywhere until after they had killed it.

It's cutthroat enough between locals as it is. You can't expect us to be loose-lipped on the world wide web when most of us don't even discuss turkeys with our close friends.

We talk among each other a lot about private land birds, but public land birds are off limits. Seriously, the only way I would come to Mississippi to hunt from out of state would be if I was retired and had 2-3 weeks to spend doing it.  Our birds are just too educated and the terrain too thick to think you can come here and kill birds like is done in Kansas and Nebraska. Very few of us would limit at 3 birds each year if we didn't have a ridiculously long 6 week season.

I agree totally with your assessment.  I have family in Mississippi and have hunted along the Big Black River East of Vicksburg.  My mothers family place is northwest of Clinton in the Brownsville community.  Those birds are not easy for sure.

We have hunted public land in Mississippi 8 times and killed two gobblers each trip. We normally hunt 5 days. We have also had a few other gobblers we should have killed. But I agree, they are as tough as any bird I have hunted. I love to hear them gobble in the big hardwoods in those swamps.
