New to turkey hunting . Just bought a shotgun

What's up guys this will be my first year spring turkey hunting.  I am pretty excited to get going.  I ended up purchasing a benelli super nova with a steady grip stock.

Was this shotgun do the job ok?  I didn't think a semi was necessary for turkey. I use semis for waterfowl hunting.


Looking to start checking out some patterning pics and finding the best ammo for it.

Got a buddy that hunts a super nova and it has done great.  They are a bit heavy but no worse than my 835.  She should treat you well.  He uses a Jellyhead and 3.5" Mag blends I believe.  Good luck!

That's a GREAT shotgun for turkey hunting!!!  I'd suggest a SumToy .650 Choke and some Winchester #6 Longbeard shells.... you'll more than likely be in business!!!

That extra weight will help absorb some recoil. The steady grip will make a nice turkey rig as well. Good luck!

What choke do you plan on shooting and how much do you want to spend on shells? Want to stay cheaper get the Winchester Long Beard shells (lead). Want to spend a little more and get better shells buy Hevi Shot. I wouldn't shoot larger than #6s in lead or #7s in Hevi shot.

Spend the money on a quality choke and then try a some different shells. It helps if you have a friend wanting to try some different shells to split the cost. There are a bunch of good chokes out there and most expensive doesn't necessarily mean it's the best. I shoot an indian creek out of my bps and super x2. I have used a bunch of different 3.5" 6&5 out of it and all had over 120 hits in a 10" circle at 40 yards. Some where better than others but all would kill a turkey. That being said I killed a bunch of birds with a $20 dollar h.s. Strutt undertaker with hevi 6's one or two at distances that I would get me in trouble on this forum. Good luck

I don't mind shooting expensive ammo as long as it's on point.  Choke and ammo to figure out now
