835 Safety Sticking???

Sunday I took my 835 duck hunting for the first time (for me and the gun . . .) and I had an issue where the safety got stuck in the fire position.  I swung on a duck, but could not get a good lead/shot so I backed off and when I tried to thumb the safety on, I would not budge.  I unloaded the gun and the and the safety engaged perfectly.  I worked it back and forth a dozen times without issue and even tried to dry fire to ensure the safety was working.  All good.  I reloaded and continued hunting, but never had a reason to disengage.  Tonight I worked the safety back and forth another dozen times or so and no issues.

I have had this 835 since about 1998 and am very familiar with it.  It has been two years since I have completely tore it apart for a good cleaning, but I has only been shot 25 times or so since, 2 turkeys and a few dove loads.

Anyone had something like this happen?

My 935 did it to me a few weeks ago. It's been in storage since I ended the season and when I pulled her out I had trouble removing it from saftey. A little piece of a twig was wedged in it. Cleaned it up and put it away for a few more weeks.

How was the duck hunt?

I've switched to the 870 as my primary, but I still like breaking out the 3.5 inchers out of the 835 one or twice a year.  I'll never get rid of that ugly gun!

Consider putting one of these on it to give you better control.  I have them on all my Mossbergs.

Take the gun down remove forearm, the two black arms out of receiver and remove bolt assembly, flip gun upside down so u can see inside receiver hol the bottom of the safety assembly with one hand flip gun over and remove the screw from the top of the safety slide but be careful there is a small ball and spring in there, keep pushing on top of safety and the bottom of safety assembly and spring and ball will fall out in your hand remove whole assembly and clean with bore scrubber, put back together and put a tiny drop of oil in the assembly and put back together by using the same method sounds complicated but it's not it's pretty self explanatory once u get started, main thing is don't lose spring and ball hope this helps if u need more info pm me

How was the duck hunt?

It was fun.  4 of us killed 3, but I never fired a shot.  My best opportunity at a wood duck would have had me give a steel shower to one of my buddies, so I pulled off.

That steel extended safety is pricey but it is very nice and gives a more quality feel to the gun, I have them on both of my 835's
