anyone have a woodhaven real hen in cedar

BigMick

Don't believe there has ever been one made.  They come in Cherry, Walnut, and Poplar.
Cherry is my personal favorite

On the Woodhaven web page under the collector grade tab, they offer a LE short box that's Walnut / Cedar for $59.95.

BigMick

You are correct sir.  The gentleman stated a Real Hen.  The collector grade is the only one that I am aware of in cedar.
Might be able to call the Woodhaven shop and talk to Mike or Jimbo and ask them about a cedar Real Hen.  I'm sure Mike has probably experimented with cedar.

gobbler336

I know they made a purple heart and cedar for a limited time but I could have swore i saw a guy on here that had a all cedar one for sell a long while back.

BigMick

WOW....I hadn't ever heard of the purpleheart / cedar RealHen.  I even asked Scott Ellis and he didn't recall that one either.  I'd personally love to have one of those too!!  I might have to call the shop and see if they have one laying around somewhere!!

BigMick

Okay....here's the update.  Woodhaven did indeed make a Cedar and Purpleheart RealHen.  I definitely learned something today!!  Now to hunt one down for me too!!
gobbler336....if I can get my hands on a couple I'll PM you.

I wouldn't mind having one of their BlackBird strikers. I have an extra birch flare tip new in the pack I would trade

gobbler336

I have the flared and straight tip blackbird, I wish they would put them back in production, I called them several years back, said they split to many trying to turn them it wasn't cost effective to make'em.

I have heard stories of them splitting . Never knew they were referring to it during production. Is there a difference between them and just an ebony striker? I have been looking at some of Bill Lyman ebony strikers and they look good.

gobbler336

Never tried bills by there has to be a difference in regular ebony and laminated, heck two makers can turn a striker from the same chunk and they will sound different

Not sure how the laminated ebony would work but to be honest if you want a great striker there's better choices than ebony.  Black locust, snakewood, dymondwood, yellow heart, persimmon and hickory to name a few.

I love every striker mentioned. Yellow heart, and one of your snake wood strikers is always with me. But at the same time my Derrick Stuckey ebony is one of the 5 that always makes the trip too
