browning maxis...?

can anyone give me any feedback on these guns as far as reliability, patterning or any issues ive been interested in one of these and I should think it should pattern well I seen it has the 10 gauge bore lengthened forcing cone from the factory any input appreciated before I pull the trigger on a good deal

I'm not 100% certain, but Browning only offers the back bored barrel on their over/under shotguns and the A5. You might want to check before spending big $ on a Maxus. I very well could be wrong. My good friend shoots a Browning Maxus for waterfowl in all conditions, and says it is a great gun.

Just bought a silver nwtf they are backbored, maxus and silver
Only reason I didnt get maxus is it gonna be a turkey gun and I wanted as short of a barrel as I could get
Silver came in 24 and thats what I got.if you like your maxus as I do my silver you will enjoy.
I shot sporting clays with mine the other day just to put rounds through it
1 1/8 oz. loads no hiccups.

The Maxus has established a very good record for reliability. It uses the Invector+ chokes which are a very strong design and throw excellent patterns. The Maxus is backbored but it also has the Vector Pro lengthened forcing cone that allows shot to transition more smoothly into the overbored barrel.

The bore is .742, their standard overbored size. Browning makes some of the finest commercial shotgun barrels in the industry. You will never and should never do anything to that barrel but clean it.

I was fortunate enough to spend the day with the design engineer for that gun when it was introduced at SHOT several years ago. We took 2 of those guns to the range and fried them with a variety of shells but the best thing was being able to talk to him for several hours about Browning and Winchester shotguns. It was an experience that is not often available and I tried to learn as much as possible from him that day. He's also been very gracious and since that time we've spoken several time  on the phone.

It is a fine gun and since it takes standard Invector+ chokes, you'll have a wide variety form which to choose.

I polished my BPS barrel this year use the JB/Kroil procedure.  Should I not have done that?  It didn't seem to have much of an effect on the pattern either positively or negatively.

I believe they are chrome lined and it can harm them

Browning makes such fine barrels that all that's necessary is a good cleaning. Using the procedure for polishing that is now pretty much accepted here at OG won't hurt a bore as long as no material is removed from it and all of the abrasive is cleaned out thoroughly.

That procedure can remove the gunk that has built up in a bore and many shooters report seeing better patterns after performing it.

Some folks tend to believe that if a little is good, more is better, and you count me in that group at times. Too much of even a good thing...

Anything that actually removes metal however can create high/low spots in the bore. Using a polishing material that contains harsh abrasives and not removing it thoroughly thorough a thorough cleaning can also create problems of course. Any abrasive material should be removed prior to shooting as it can keep "working" on the bore.

Browning uses a hard steel in their barrels and they are as concentric as any I've seen. I'm sure you did no damage to your bore using that procedure.

I've had just about every major player for a turkey gun.  Mossbergs, Remmys, berettas, Benellis and a maxus.  My personal best patterning gun has been the maxus by far.  It fit me as well as the SBE but felt better.  It is lite, points great and soft shooting.  I think it is brownings best semi auto currently made.  I shot mine with a hevi choke and the patterns were the most consistent I have ever owned.  I have high regard for the maxus and have even used mine for a little trap shoting.

Its a great gun, but for a dedicated turkey gun I personally like other guns like my sbe2 and my bps 20gauge..which is what I hunt mostly with now.

All the current and recent 12 gauge FN-built autos from Browning and Winchester are .742" backbored................
