Cleaning Copper Pot Calls?

I have a copper pot call that I like the sound of, but when I rough it up with emery paper or sandpaper the striker tip will load up with fine pieces of copper & skip. What do I need to do to prevent this?

I just use green scotch Brite on mine.  Rub one direction and then at 90 degrees.

After scuffing you could wipe it with an alcohol pad to clean it up.  It's probably a good idea to do this periodically anyway to clean the surface.  I just use a green scotch brite pad as well.

Also, clean the tip of the striker with fine sandpaper or the green scotch brite.

WHEN YOU CLEAN THE END OF THE STRIKER WITH FINE SANDPAPER DONT SAND IN JUST ONE DIRECTION , GO ALL AROUND MAKING IT ROUGH AND THIS CLEANS IT ALSO
