At 8:11 pm this evening, the 2014 Mississippi Turkey season will come to a close, leaving Eric Gregg, Surehuntsalot and myself to head to the showers.
On Saturday, May 3rd, we will have two hunters, Xarcher and Mightyjoeyoung, heading out for the PA state opener. Their season runs from May 3rd through May 31st. Good luck, gentlemen!
Be safe, have fun, shoot turkeys.

Thanks for the good wishes all. I will be with another junior hunter Saturday. He is 16 and just getting started but seems to get it. Hope I can pull one in for him. I am letting him use my 12 gage. This old man will continue to drink the 20 gage juice.

To say another door opens is an understatement. The door Saturday morning was wide open but no cigar. Had a total of 8 different gobblers within 50 yards and never dropped the hammer. I was trying to get a bird for a first time hunter and at one time 3 gobblers snuck in behind him as I watched from 30 yards behing him. He never new they were there and there was nothing I could do about it. They eventually saw him and nervously walked away. Another time I was sitting with him and had one coming in on a string gobbling his head off. This boy was shaking in his boots. It was his first turkey hunt. Anyhow, the gobbler got to about 20 yards below us just below a bench and just as he was ready to take that last step into view, some hens busted us from behind. Putt Putt Putt and away they all go. So we sneak off in the direction they all went and set again. Let the woods calm down for a bit start calling again. Got a response and was worked 2 longbeards and a jake to about 50 yards but they got intercepted by hens and just walked off. And that was all before noon. PA does not allow all day hunting or hunting on Sunday so we will try again next Saturday. The good news is that boy wants to do it again. Not sure I can make all of that happen every time though.

Put one down yesterday AM. No upgrade. Mid 50's maybe. 21 pounds, 9 beard, weak spurs. But here is the kick in the pants. The boy I have been trying to get a bird for left 10 minutes earlier to go to school. I shot the bird with the gun I was letting him use.

What have you got, 10 more days, now? That's plenty of time to escort a big one into the loving arms of Jesus.
Good hunting.
