Won it in a raffle. 3", 28", camo, composite. Came with factory full, mod, and ic. Is there any one who has any insight ? I am looking for a good pattern at 40 yds. Should I go with factory full (anything I should try different)? How about hevi 13? Fed heavy weight? Lead only? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Brian
Hey Brian,
First of all welcome to OG. It's good to see you here and look forward to hearing more from you.
Congratulations! Winning a gun is always nice. I have not shot that gun but understand that it handles well and has several desirable features. I believe that it accepts Win-Choke threaded choke tubes, so that means you have a wide choice of brands available. Since your's is a hunting version, it should have a 3" chamber which again means a wide choice of shells that you can use.
I'd recommend that you clean the bore and trigger group of any excess oil or grease. The bore is chrome-lined and will look clean even when it is not. I'd recommend that you "deep clean" the bore. If you're not familiar with that procedure, you can find it in the article,
"Cleaning a Shotgun Barrel" by clicking on the allaboutshooting banner below this post.
As far as chokes and shells, I'd recommend the 3" Hevi-13 "Bronze" shells with 2 oz. of #6 shot. It's a very consistent performer and will do everything necessary to cleanly kill a turkey at any reasonable range.
Win-Choke threaded barrels do very well with several chokes but I'd recommend the SSX for your gun. It has excellent geometry and throws good patterns with a variety of shells, including the Hevi-13s. There are other good chokes as well and I'm sure you'll have other recommendations.
Again, congratulations on your new gun and all my best in the coming season.
Thanks,
Clark
