Here is a picture of the end of a striker. What are these small holes in the end of the striker. This isn't the only striker I've found with this. What causes it and how do you keep it from happening?

Bonjour

I would say that you have been feeding some pests. I would go out to your stash and look for some evidence of an infestation, little piles of dust around the wood. Get some good insecticide and spray or spinkle it all around your wood and on the wood itself before they get too bad. Hopefully that isn't what it is though.       Ryan

3 oak and 1 maple have the holes. It looks like it's just in a certain piece of the grain. Never seen anything like this before.

Its the grain structure of the wood. Red and white oak, chestnut, and many others have the tubular grain.

That's what I was gonna say. More than likely it's where the fluids channel to and from the root system.

I agree with c_w and handcannon, I've seen this a lot in the oaks.

That's what I was thinking. It looks like the end grain of red oak. seems like BIG holes though. I would figure on seeing 2 or 3 streaks like that in a 3/4" circle. Unless that is just a striker tip in the picture, in which case it looks like just the right sizing.

Those tubes are what I use to tell red oak from white oak. In white oak they are much smaller and most are closed up.
