Basic way to check adjustable fiber optic sights?

I bought a Remington 11-87 sure shot turkey magnum last year right in the middle of season. I shot it some and was good enough to use but after shooting it this year it seems to be shooting to the left. I have scopes on all of my rifles so I'm really not the best with sighting in adj open sights and not sure the way to take the rear sight. To me if it's shooting left I need to move the rear to the left to bring it back straight. Is this correct?

And also when I am sighting it in would I be best to shoot field loads at close range like 10 yards to see where the pattern is? Never done anything like this with a shotgun before

Just the opposite, move rear sight to the right to correct center of pattern hitting left of point of aim.

Ok thanks I always seem to get it backwards
So is my thinking with shooting field loads close up the best way to check my sights? Hate to burn up good magnum loads sighting it in
