Decoy question?

Anybody ever used those Cherokee sports turkey decoys that are inflatable and supposedly moved with the wind and have the life like bobble heads that Bob up-and-down?  I've got a three pack that I'm going to try out this year, just wondering if anybody had any experience with these?

I have the Ultimate 4 Pak Flock. The decoys are about what you would expect for the price. From a distance, they look good. Up close? Not so much. The durability is pretty good, for inflatables. The stakes are adjustable so you can allow them to move in soft breeze or immobilize them in windier conditions.

They helped bring down two birds last year, one for me and one for my friend. My friend also took out one of the dekes with several stray pellets from his Ithaca 16 GA. It comes with a repair kit, but that poor deke was peppered, so it was retired.

Overall, I would recommend them. Very lightweight, very easily transported, easy set up, decent quality, great price. If you want realism, forget it. If you want basic dekes, yes.

I've always wondered how good they really have to be anyway. Ever since I saw 5 longbeards strutting on my neighbors wrought iron flamingos....

I got the Cherokee 4 pack. It was like 15 bucks and free shipping, can't go wrong there. The feeding hen is the size of a yard chicken and almost solid black so I pitched her. The upright/calling hen looks decent in the shade, but has a blue hue in direct sunlight. I do like the submissive hen and jake. Both look better than most other cheap manufactured decoys, plus they weigh next to nothing. I keep the hen in my vest as my run-and-gun decoy. Killed several longbeards over her.

I have used them for years. Killed many turkeys over them. You can put a whole flock in your vest pocket if you choose to.  They are realistic enough that hens will come along and peck them and put holes in them. That's the only drawback. You have to shoot the tom before he gets close or you will be patching your decoy. Contrary to popular opinion you don't need a DSD or AvionX to kill a turkey. Or any decoy for that matter.

Funny, I had two hens pecking them yesterday morning.  But the 3 gobblers hung up at 100 yds but that's more likely my lousy calling.

Probably not so much bad calling as to much calling. I have heard bad turkey sounds many times in the woods and thought it was another hunter and here came a live hen. Try calling until he gobbles at you and then shut up. No matter how much he gobbles don't answer. Make him hunt you. Sometimes decoys will make them hang up because they see the hens and want them to come to him.
