Burn signs on LB's hull??

I was looking at yesterday's missed (10yards) Win LB 3" shell. The plastic hull has burn marks almost halfway down to brass. Never seen this before shooting 11-87 tree bark 20" barel. This normal with Lb's?

Mine had marks 1/4-1/2" down the hull when I shot one. Was a 3.5" out of 870. Looked melted almost and was hard to work the action open. Almost seemed like it melted to the chamber.

Yes exactly mine ejected fine but looks like melted plastic

If it will show up, y'all post some pictures of what your seeing.  I fired a couple in a 935 and I did not notice any unusual marks on the hull.

Their Partition Gold slugs do the same thing for me...looks like a powder burn.  Wasn't there another post on here about that?

Chris Downs

No burn marks on mine(3.5"s), no problems ejecting either cause they blew the chamber open and flew out like an auto loader anyway...haha

COssman14

No problem out of my Benelli Nova and I shot 5 the other day.

Why shoot a 3.5"? Because they don't make a 4".

Tom Foolery

Mine do that, looks like powder residue to me.

I think it's a gas escape problem around the chamber.

I've noticed some differences in the o.d. of the 3" and 3.5" shells. The hulls differ in thickness from shell to shell. If the brass does not expand to fill the chamber, there can be some flashback that can cause the burn that you're seeing on the hull.

If the crimp is not filling the chamber, the same thing could happen. There is a lot of pressure and fire when you touch off a shell.

We must always remember it's a "controlled" explosion fairly close to our face.

Thanks,
Clark
