Yup, just get some glue for the DSD heads that break off. 
You are correct....if he would be buying an original DSD decoy that were hard bodies and if you toss it down on a rock like I did after my 6yr old son peppered it, it could break.
However where you are not correct is that DSD decoys are no long hard body decoys & have not been for some time now
I guess he could find an original used one but even those are hard to come by. If he were to buy a DSD decoy today, last month or even from three years ago he would not need to shower it or blow it

Good luck fixing whatever is wrong with your decoy. I'm sure if you can't get it right it would still do the job.
