GOBBLE-GOBBLE   Well looks like the winter has final broke its hold on us here in W KY. Still a lot of ice in shaded areas and on the north slope of hills. Most of it should be gone in a few days.

I hope to get in some scouting this week. I always look forward to getting out and to see what's changed since last year. Anyone been out scouting yet?

I went out this morning and didn't hear any in a place where they were last year. Lots of pig tracks that were not there last year. I did see some scratching there and heard one gobbling when I got back to the truck. He was on private land of course.

Nothing here, guys.
We still have a ton of snow, and they are watching another potential storm for the end of the week here. It was near 50 with a lot of melt on Saturday, but it's gonna be chilly through at least mid march.
This winter is really testing my nerves.
Hoping to get out in a week or so if we can get some melt.

Beside the 8-9 turkeys hanging around, nothing in sight.  I'm also caught with tons of snow, they still are on big winter flocks.
I will officialy leave Canada to reach better sky in the south next monday.  I may hunt Ga first and then Fl, i'm still not sure of my planning.  But the main plan is to chase turkeys, relax and have tons of fun in the USA 

I'll keep you posted once the road trip will begin!

Seeing hundreds of Turkeys in our 2 fields. One of the fields held turkey till a couple weeks before the opener last year, then they disappeared. There was over a hundred. Fun to see.

Expecting 6 inches of snow tomorrow! Getting closer though, it can't snow forever!

Good Luck to the Widow Makers this year  . Good to see a few of the old members still around,  it looks like y'all have a good team this year. It looks like another busy spring up here, the birds are starting to move around and have been seeing lots of them, in and out of the woods. They are starting to break up into smaller flocks of 20/30 birds, so it won't be long until they start to move to there spring areas. 31 days and counting until season opens  .

FYI WidowMakers, Scott (WillowRidgeCalls) is a old team mate and he designed our banner.

I did a little scouting this past Monday. Didn't see a lot of sign but did see 6 longbeards.

It's been cold up here, but the birds are starting to move around a bit better. The DNR did a study on how far these birds travel to their wintering areas, they radio collared a few hens to see where they went and studied them. They found that a few of the hens went as far as 18-20 miles from where they wintered to where they nested in the spring, so you may have birds one day and nothing the rest of the season. A lot of hunters think that the winter was too bad for the birds, because they aren't seeing any early in the season, if it's a late spring those birds may have not made it back to where they need to be yet, by the time seasons start? Just some food for thought, don't give up on your areas just because you've had a bad winter.
