Federal heavyweight (12ga) #7/DND Haymaker choke

Anyone using a DND Haymaker choke and the Federal Heavyweight #7 shot? I am working on changing my back-up gun Stoeger M2000, from lead to heavyweight. I have looked at a lot of the posts from  on the Fed ammo.

The DND is really a modified IC choke.

I don't know anything about the DND Haymaker choke's shooting characteristics, but if it is, as you indicated, an IC clone it probably won't give you a turkey killing pattern w/ the Federal HW shells.  The Haymaker is advertised as shooting all wad types and doesn't have the IC's wad retention rings.  I've shot a lot of the Federal HW's through a bunch of chokes, and even with allowances for the reduced number of shot in the HW shells, did not find a choke which produced patterns as good as an IC w/ EM Hevi13's.  With that said, one of the great things about this site is the number of knowledgeable shooters who can direct you, via experience and trial and error, to a choke combination which might work for you in a particular gun.  It's an extremely expensive and time consuming proposition to evaluate gun, load, tube combinations, especially w/ the Federal HW's.  You need to ask, " What choke is working in a Stoeger M2000 with the Federal HW shells?"  You can buy a choke for about the cost of two boxes of the Federal HW shells.

I had one of them chokes and took it back for a refund.  I wasn't impressed at all.  That choke desing a is actually a non= ported choke.  It just looks like it is ported.  Think of it as a Indian Creek BDS choke over the top of a normal choke.  The port cut outs are there in the choke but don't go all the way through in otherwords.

I guess I'm lucky but the Fed hvy has shot good for me in the couple of chokes I have used with it.Try a .650 carlson non ported. The tightwad has also put good numbers up.

take this guys advice he has probably tried more chokes than most here. if this choke is designed to strip the wad then no it will not work well with the federals

They shoot good when paired with the right choke. Most try them with the big name brands that are designed to strip the wad which goes against what Feberal designed the shell to do.

its not ported just looks like it and it doesn't have wad strippers. It is fully acceptable to shoot FCW out of it...now is it any good is up to the shooter and what they want. Its freaking expensive IMO but cost is relative.

Trulock makes a choke especially for the Federal Hvywght shells and Remington owners have had great success with that combination.  Haven't heard any comments on it by the Mobil Choke users.
