BPS 12 - Sights, Holo, or RedDot

Guys,
I'm a long time reader, but new poster. I need some help deciding on what sights to put on my BPS NWTF 12 this year. It came with the Hi-Viz TriViz sights from the factory and I'm not a fan. With the rhino choke and hevi-shot loads, its dang near a rifle at 40 yards. I want to try something new, but I have only shot fiberoptics in the past. I've read several of y'alls post about red-dots, scopes, and the Burris FFIII. I also have looked at the williams firesights, but I'm sure how how the front sight will install on my rib. If you had to go with one sight, which one would you go with and why?

Is your gun drilled and tapped?  The reason I ask is because the browning scope base is a terrible design.and only allows for scopes or red dots that use two rings.  Otherwise the williams or hi viz sights will be fine.  I have been using my front sight only and like the simplicity.  However, a good red dot makes life easier.  Now that burris gives a lifetime warranty on the ff sights, I would lean to that since they are so light.  Good luck

It has two screws on the top of the receiver 1 7/8" apart

That screw pattern is for the Browning base.  I have looked all over for another base that matches that screw hole pattern without luck.  Unless you can make a custom base you are stuck with the Browning base.  BTW, the Browning base is weaver only, so if you get a ff3 make sure you get a weaver base for it.

Thanks for the help. That browning base looks horrible for the FFIII mount. I may see what the gunsmith can do.

Good luck, yeah I don't know what browning is thinking. If you do have a Smith able to mate the bps with a small pic rail, could you please let me know.  I would love one myself.  Thanks Russ

I have a browning base on my BPS with an FFIII on it, it doesn't look as good as a smaller base would but it works well.

Hey bps...do you have the burris low weaver mount and did you mount in the front or rear slot?  Any pics? Thanks

Yep, the factory mount ain't sleek for sure, but I have had no problems with sighting in or using it in the field...

I took the Dremel to the base to make it work with picatinny, but only because I already had the picatinny mount...

That's what mine looks like except i don't have the guard. I just used the standard mount that came with the sight and put it in the rear slot.

Hey mudhen, what exactly did you do to your mount? I prefer the picatinny mount since its lower. Could I take a round file to the base?  Also, is there enough rail section on the base to get a good purchase with the mount?  Thanks.

Eggzackly, I filed down the slot a bit.  I recall it was only an issue of the thickness of the black coating before the base fit.  Go slow, keep checking the fit.

The base itself does not hang over, but the platform does.  No problems so far.  Seems pretty sturdy, and I tend to be hard on gear...

I found a Weaver base that lined up with the two existing holes and then had my gunsmith drill and tap for the two additional holes in the base so I have 4 screws. I use the Leupold steel Weaver style rings with a Pentax 2.5X scope. It's a solid system that has served me well.
