Well didn't give one a ride home in the truck today.

I took my uncle hunting on his land this morning one county north of where my farm is.  We had 2 or 3 gobble early but nothing gobbled once they hit the ground.  We set up on one bird gobbling in the back of his land but by the time we got there he had already shut up so we only had a general area of where he was.  I'm afraid we got too close but he and another bird ending up flying down on the other side of a ridge about 100 yds from our set up.  I just knew they were going to come up over the little hill and put an end to the hunt but no such luck.  That's the only 2 we saw all day.  Birds shut up by sun up and it ended up getting windy.

Now my brother hunted on our land, where he and I will be going in the morning and unfortunately didn't hear anything gobble this morning.  He kind of had that if it could go wrong it did type of morning.  He had 5 longbeards close but just couldn't close the deal.  I will be with him in the morning and we'll see what we can do.  Suppose to be cloudy but warm, with a chance of rain tomorrow afternoon.

I'll be in touch.   :smiley-char092:

Hey guys

No luck over the last 2 days.  Weather was crappy today and went out for a few hours this afternoon but no luck.  Yesterday I went out with my brother and had a few birds gobble 3 or 4 times before they shut up on the roost.  This gave us only a general area of where they were roosted by the time we got back to them and no birds gobbled once they flew down.

In my opinion, the birds are still about 10 days or more from being "right".  Very hard to hunt a bird if they only gobble a few times or none and shut up by the time they hit the ground.

I will keep on hunting through out the week off and on and will update accordingly.  I just need to have some patience.

Well, at least you get to hunt. The rest of us are bored to death ;D

Just because they wont gobble doesnt mean they wont come in!  I know its not as fun but Turkeys will sneak in all day long in the early season.  You just gotta give them some time on each set up.

I agree bigsho.  I've been patient it just hasn't all come together yet lol.  I do agree I hate the waiting game as much as anyone.

;D Being I hunt Iowa, you learn patience, because the farmers cut down most of our woods. It's hard to run and gun on farm land.
