Hopefully I will be hunting in late April around southern Missouri on public land. Never done it before, so any of you that have, please PM me if you are willing to help.

I have hunted there in the past and plan to go again this spring. I also live in Alabama. I will send you a PM with some good info.

I live here and only hunt the Mark Twain National Forest. I have hunted these woods for 14 years and have only been skunked twice. But that does not mean they are easy, they get messed with from the time they start gobbling until they quit. It's not impossible but don't plan on showing up for two days, kill two birds and head for the house. It's like any public land hunt, it will take patience and persistence. We don't have near the birds we had in the 80's but they are coming back slowly. Give me a shout if you need anymore info.

Hey man, thanks for your post. I am going with a friend to hunt the Current River/Jacks Fork River. If I am correct, MO law says turkey hunting ends at 1pm, so we will have time for fishing!

Yeah I live in Piedmont, Mo which is about 40 miles east of where you are talkig about. I have turkey hunted along current river a lot. I have killed several toms over there, it's a tough hunt as far as terrain is concerned but you have a lot of it to yourself as a lot of people are too lazy to go in very very deep. Yes our season closes at 1 pm and yes current river has some of the best smallmouth bass fishing in the state of Missouri.

I hunted around the Houston, MO area for many years. Great memories with a fine gentleman, Mr. Nolan Hutcheson.
