My neighbor across the road has a turkey running around in his field. The guy across the field from him has a pen full of turkeys. On the weekends I sit on the porch drinking coffee listening to them. My wife tells me I'm crazy for sitting out in the cold just to hear a bird. I don't know if she will ever understand? I was working on some pipe in the yard the other day and everyonce in awhile when I would hit the pipe with a hammer he would shock gobble. I have busted the calls out a few times and played with him. I tell my neighbor all the time he better hope I can drum something up out in the woods, cause if not I'm gonna be sitting on the property line, before its over. I'm just glad y'all don't have to deal with this pain.

Yes, that is torture but it is also a small itch to the huge turkey scratch we are all wanting to take care of. The last gobble I heard  was the opening day of muzzleloader.

It's good to hear 'em anytime!

Reminds me of a hunt we were on in TN a couple years back.  One of my buddies kept hearing a gobbler just tearing it up.  He couldn't get it to move so he crept closer.  Still couldn't get that henned up tom to move so he moved closer and closer.  Spent an hour on that bird.
Finally got close enough to see a roof...and a barn...and a yard...and a pen...full of turkeys.  One of which was gobbling his head off. :TooFunny:
Love to hunt the King of Spring!

[/quote] She said she wants to go with me this spring, and see what the fuss is all about. I sure hope she does. We have a lot of fun together, and she likes to hunt, but.... the conditions has to be just right. She doesn't like cold weather, and she doesn't like skeeters. I told her she wouldn't have to worry about the cold, but the skeeters are a differant story. I will get the thermacel out for her, and hope they don't fly off with it.

I hope it works out that she can.  I've been trying to get mine to go for years.  I've managed to get her to go grouse hunting a few times.  Which she loves my dogs and that helps out with that....but I had to pick easy places to hunt so she could follow in the truck.  We hunted mostly old strip benches.  But I would like her to go...just don't see it happening anytime soon.  Plus my time to myself in the woods is what keeps me from going crazy anyways  :icon_thumright:!

God bless

Man seeing all that makes the wait worse!
I think I finally have talked my wife into going with me this spring. I got her interested by showing her how to use my owl call. One night we had an owl behind our house and I let her play with the call and she was hooked. I think the key is making sure they are involved and not a spectator. Finding out that my wife likes to use calls and gets excited when the animal answers back is what opened up the door.
I think that is what I will let her do starting out is run the locator calls and then work to a box or push pin.
Best of luck to everyone this spring.

I live down the street from a turkey farm & see the wild ones in the field ofter enough. But, I don't sit outside on the porch in the cold eating up their gobbles!
I am going to bag my first Turkey this spring if it is the last thing I do!

Gobble!

If I had a neighbor with a turkey they would hate me. I would have that thing gobbling every time I walked out of the house.

I do my best to make him cut up as often as possible
