There are so many now its very hard to sort them out. If I were you, I'd make a list of your needs, wants and don't wants in a dog, and do a thorough search of all breeders. Seems every breeder focuses on certain traits, so it should be fairly easy to sort them out.
Some want high drive, some want a more controlled dog. Some want ugly dogs, some want chocolate labs

Be warned though, if you're not prepared to spend 700 to a grand, you might want to keep your eye out for local litters. Some of my best dogs were just hunting stock parents found in the local newspaper.
Whatever you do, make sure its a pup that you want to buy long before you ever go visit them, because you won't leave without a puppy after you go look at them. There isn't much cuter in the world than a lab puppy.
