Hey fellas,

I have been looking to get the wife and I laptops.  Really wanted to get Macs, but with the software we use everyday, just would add too much extra steps or new, and very costly software.  So, PC it is.

What does everyone use?
What about those of you that edit and produce videos?

Budget is fairly high, I want good equipment that will not have a lot of bugs.

For the video tasks you described you should get the mac.  Parallels Desktop to run the Windows software.
I have supported this set up for some physicians and it works very well.
If that is not an option then make sure the video editing software supports Windows 64bit and get a laptop with a 64bit version of Windows and as much RAM as you can get.  Also get an Intel processor with the latest version of the i7 processor.

What I think I'll do is get a Mac Book Pro for me and then a Dell for my wife.  She has embroidery software that would be MSRP $2300 to get for the Mac, so I'm not up for that right now.  Thanks for the advice

Apple laptops are high, but the prices are much better for factory refurbs.  One can get an Air for about $850 if he felt comfortable going that route.

But there is better value out there.  A 7200 RPM hard drive or solid state, plenty of RAM, and a good video card will help.

The HP ProBooks are good, I own one and know others that have them.  Micro Center has a number of choices, and you can compare with ebay, newegg, tigerdirect, amazon, etc. These may not be the latest and most up to date components, but they'll handle the needs of majority of household users.
