Remington?

Just sitting here reading and thinking. Has Remington ever tried an overbore barrel? It seems like most everyone says that's the reason the Mossberg 835-935 pattern so well, due to the overbored barrel. I know there has been a many turkey fall victim to Remington just the way it sits, so if it aint broke don't fix it right. So I was just wondering if anyone knows if Remington has tried this or not, and if they haven't, why do you think their reason behind it is? My guess is they are happy with the way their gun performs the way it is, but then I fall back on, if you can make something a little better why not do it. Not trying to star a Remington, Mossberg war here because I love both of them, like I stated earlier just wondering. Thanks.

Some of the target barrels had a bigger bore in them.  Now the new guns with probore choke system has the 735 bore in it.

My take on it is because its irrelevant. The Mossberg 835 puts up better numbers but in whos eyes. I mean the number thing is really not relevant to actual performance. I mean if your 835 puts 300 in a 10" as apposed to a Rem with 250 what does that actually mean. The numbers game is strictly us gun guys playing with numbers that mean very little. because 250 or 300 our quarry is deader than dead. So in the eyes of a good gun manufacturer why change anything.Im sure that Mossberg didn't even plan on it being a better patterning gun. It just worked out that way. Most of the guys I hunt with think Im nuts when im trying to pack a few more pellets into a 10 circle. They just take a shot or 2 make sure they have a nice even pattern and thats it most probably dont even count. In reality even if I got 500 in that circle I would still be shooting at 40yds and not 80 because that is what I like to do.

I haven't ever heard of these barrels, so now I need to do some reading. I'm pretty sure I'll never buy one " or at least I don't think I will" but I do enjoy reading about the different things gun manufactures do.

I understand exactly what your saying, and dead is dead no matter how you look at it. I do know quiet a few folks that don't, and wont play the number game " a killing pattern is what their after". That number game is what cost a lot of us a lot of money, and in the end dead is dead. Most of us just want our equipment to perform to the best of its ability, and from what I was reading the overbore is what gave Mossberg that edge. That's the only reason I was asking.

FYI-The Rem Probore is not the same choke as the Remchoke and not nearly as easy to get other chokes including turkey chokes. Not worth chasing for my needs.

You can buy just the Probore barrel from Remington.  Now only a few make chokes for them like you say.  Now we have had them out and had good luck with them.  Now that said unless you have money to just play with I would stay with the plain old rem 727 bore barrel.  I have seen them go over 300.  Now will it shoot toe to toe with the 835/935 no but it will stand its own.

Thanks again guys for the info. Like I said earlier, with all the turkeys that have gotten their brains rattled by Remington, I dont see any need to run out and buy a pro bore barrel, but it is nice to learn something new. I've got an 1100 mag that I need to start playing with. Even though it wont set the world on fire, " or at least I dont think it will" with lead, thats what I want to set it up for. Im thinking probably a #6 in lead shot, just got to do some more reading for the chokes. I've had a few sugestions, but at the time I was thinking about Hevi shot.
