ssx choke and federal hw ? IT IS PORTED??

 In the 20 gauge especially, the SSX handles the federal HW w/FC  and lead  w/ FC wad very well.
The ports are near the muzzle of the tube and no problem . The same would be true with the Browning type chokes that have the small round ports.

What gun are you asking about and what gauge?

870 12  sm  26" barrel , 3" or 2 3/4" shells.  3 1/2" rearrange my thought processes!

870 20 youth 21" barrel

The true muzzle of the SSX is set back from the "ports" and they have no effect on the performance of the Flitecontrol or other wads.

When you look into the muzzle of the SSX you can see this pretty clearly. You'll also see that the true muzzle has a smaller diameter than the ported portion.

most porting doesn't bother the 20ga FC shells to much
the 12ga are a little different,but not that much

There are a few guys shooting them with the  IC .555 including myself.  I was in the mid 140's with mine.

my experience ( which has been a lot with Rem 12 and 20) 

For the Rem 12ga - shoot HEVI 13, #7, 3.5in. JH .660 or .665,  HEVI .662 or IC .665 choke - you should be getting 250+  ( I think I got 280 on my best)

For the 20GA - Fed HW, #7, 3in, 1.5oz -  IC or Sumtoy hands down. I have got 170+

For me... HEVI seems to work best in the 12ga,,, Fed in the 20ga.
