I had shoulder surgery yesterday around 1:00 and let me tell y'all this is a PIA. They've got a pump on me with numbing medicine which is nice I guess.  I can't feel my right arm. Except in my shoulder, n it hurts like hell. I think the worst part is I have poison ivy and I can't scratch it, So I'm trying to Tell my wife where it itches. Just aggravated fellas. Can't do nothin for myself. Almost think itd been better to live with the pain evert day.

I had that 2 years ago. Said at the time I would never do it again. But I am glad I did and am sure you will be too.

guesswho

I've had each one done twice.  I never had any trouble or pain with mine.  Do the rehab, be careful and you'll be fine.

For you guys that's had shoulder surgery, how long before I can pull my bow? I've got a 65lb Mathews helim. I think it'll go down to about 55. Do I need to consider a crossbow for this season? Hope not. My last 4 seasons have been done with a bow.

I think I was on the fast end of the healing spectrum so don't base recovery time on me.  But I had shoulder surgery on June 4th, complete tear of the rotator cuff, removed 40% of the labrum and had to reattach a completely severed bicep.  I started shooting my bow (65 lbs.) in late August.  Each time I had the surgery it took about the same amount of time to start shooting.  But I know some people it takes about a year to get to that point.  I think the key is to do the rehab as much as you can.  Don't hurt yourself, but do what you can as often as you can.  Good luck.

I had a torn rotator cuff repair in Sept. of '07. I was back to work in Dec. and started shooting the wife's bow set at 30lbs. about the same time. I'm sure I could have started sooner & at a higher weight, but my bow season was over so I just took it easy. I talked to my therapist and he gave me specific exercises to help with getting back to shooting the bow. Like said above, do the exercise and do them religiously. The may not seem to be helping, but they really do.

After the surgery I didn't much pain at all and it hasn't bothered at all until the last 4-5 months. Now after doing a lot of pulling, lifting or doing something strenuous that not I'm use to doing the first thing that hurts is my shoulder. Guess the arthritis is setting in or is it because I'm getting older??  :z-dizzy: :z-dizzy:.

Tail Feathers

I've always heard shoulder surgery sucks from surgery all the way through rehab.
Hang in there and I hope it gets well real fast. :icon_thumright:

Today was my first day of physical therapy. Dude said he'd have me ready for bow season. Since I didn't have a complete year of the rotator cuff he said i'd be back to new in no time. I had the rotator cuff fixed, my chromium shaved back and a spur removed. Earlier this evenin I tried to do a little too much and the thing popped and it hurt like hell but hopefully it was nothin. It sure made my day when he told me id be ready for the first day of bow season

Do the rehab and listen to your Doctor and you should be good to go.  Good luck!

I think I might make be on my way to a making one of the quickest recoveries ever. ( knock on wood )I've been fishin twice this week. Last week I attempted a pushup and had trouble gettin down, couldn't even think about comin up. Not more than 10 minutes ago I done 35. My goal is to be shooting my bow by the 4th of July.

guesswho

Cool!  Just listen to your body, it will let you know when to back off and when to push it.

I beat my goal by 10 days. Shot my bow today. I shot 3, 3 shot groups at 20 yards. First round was the best. I was shooting at a dot about the size of a quarter, had 2 arrows touchin at the edge of the dot and my 3rd arrow was about .50" to the right of the other 2. The next 2 groups were about half dollar size and right on the money. This ain't nearly as good as I was shooting at 20 but considering I was shaky and just had the surgery on the 6th I couldn't be happier. I think I should've just shot one round. I'm gonna probably just shoot 3 arrows a day until I heal up a little more. I'm payin for those 9 arrows dearly tonight. Im just tickled that I'm gonna be able to shoot. I was told I wouldn't get to bowhunt this year. I don't like bein told I "cant" do somethin.

guesswho

Nice.  On the shooting, ease into it.  Like you said, maybe three arrows a day for a week or two then double it.

Glad to hear your rehab is going well.  I tore my ACL, MCL, and meniscus about a month ago.  Had the corrective surgery two weeks ago and have started therapy 3X/week.  I was talking to my PT and he said that the only tougher recovery than what I'm going through is rotator cuff, so I feel for ya brother.  Speedy recovery to you, but don't rush it too much.
Pass it on...
